Second Tanzanian Confirmed Dead in Israel
TANZANIA: Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba, announced the death of another Tanzanian citizen, Joshua Mollel, who had gone to Israel for studies.
Mr. Makamba posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, stating that the Tanzanian government had been informed by the Israeli government that Joshua died immediately after being captured by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023.
The minister broke the sad news today after several days had elapsed since two Tanzanians were reported missing immediately after the conflict between Israel and Hamas emerged.
According to the Ministry, the father of the deceased, Mr. Mollel, has been informed.
“We are continuing with the initial plans to send Mr. Mollel and another family member and a government official to Israel to join our ambassador and other officials there for talks with Israeli authorities for more information,” the ministry said in a statement shared on social media platforms.
Joshua was among the 260 Tanzanian youths who were in Israel to attend modern agriculture practice training.
He and his colleague, Clemence Mtenga, were kidnapped and killed by the group immediately after Hamas launched attacks against Israel.
Clemence was buried on November 28 this year in Kirwa village, Rombo, in the Kilimanjaro region.
