SBL jerks up local hospitality industry professionals to global standards

DAR ES SALAAM: Students pursuing hospitality disciplines at the National College of Tourism (NCT) will now undergo an intensive three months of extra coaching and mentorship from Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) as the brewer seek to support shaping the next generation of professionals for the country’s flourishing tourism and hospitality sector.

Through an agreement entered into last month between the college and the brewer, the first batch of over 100 students have already been enrolled into the program as part of SBL’s life skills training initiative known as “Skills for Life” initiative.

The students will among other practical industry essentials receive training on global standards of serving alcoholic beverages which include mastering mixology, crafting signature cocktails and mocktails as well as refining bar and beverage service standards.

“This is a unique training that goes beyond technical expertise to offering life skills training in the areas such as personal branding, time management, leadership, and effective communication,” commented Rispa Hatibu during the inauguration ceremony for the first batch of students.

Hatibu, SBL’s Communications and Sustainability Manager, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to youth development saying: “This initiative is more than just skills—it’s about equipping young people with the tools to transform their lives and support the growth of Tanzania’s tourism and hospitality sectors.” On her part, Mary Maduhu who is the Head of Academics at NCT described the program as a symbol of the shared vision between SBL and NCT.

“This training is not just about technical skills; it’s about unlocking potential and inspiring confidence for the the students. It also marks the beginning of a journey towards professional and personal growth,” Maduhu said.

She pointed out that Tanzania’s tourism industry is growing rapidly and therefore increasing the demand for the sector’s skilled workforce a gap she said the partnership between SBL and NCT will help to address by creating a workforce that meets international hospitality standards.

“Beyond its immediate impact on students, the program also reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development. By fostering talent and enhancing employability, SBL and NCT are contributing to Tanzania’s socio-economic growth,” the head of academics added.
