MWANZA: VICE-CHANCELLOR of Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), Professor Costa Mahalu, has emphasised the importance of building a community with a shared future, especially in guiding Africa amidst competing economic blocs.
Prof Mahalu made the emphasis during a high-level international think tank forum in Beijing, where he joined global academics in commending the Communication University of China (CUC) for its contributions through the Institute for a Community with a Shared Future.
He highlighted that China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) offers African nations clarity in identifying reliable development partners.
The forum centred on assessing China’s vision of building a global community with a shared future.
The Institute for a Community with a Shared Future has played a critical role in advancing President Xi Jinping’s vision, significantly influencing global discourse on the future of humanity.
Professor Jean-Christophe Bas, President of Compass Think Tank and Director of the European Research Centre for a Community with a Shared Future, urged the world to reflect on the future of humanity, highlighting the timeliness of China’s shared future vision.

He also encouraged the European Union (EU) to support this initiative, which aims to promote peace, shared prosperity and global harmony.
CUC President, Professor Zhang Shuting, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing the concept of a shared future through its international academic platforms. He emphasised that CUC facilitates global communication and peaceful development by fostering dialogue between civilisations.
“CUC is committed to the principles set by President Xi in connecting the world and realising the goal of building a global community with a shared future for all of humanity,” said Prof Zhang.
In his address, Professor Wei Haisheng, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), applauded the Institute’s efforts, noting that the theme of a shared future was a major focus at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
The 2024 International Think Tank Forum, themed “Building a Global Community,” was organised by CUC’s Institute for a Community with a Shared Future.
In his welcoming remarks, the Institute’s Dean, Professor Li Huailiang, highlighted the progress made in promoting international responsibility, fairness, justice and the common values of humanity.
