Saudia Group, Loop KSA agree to pioneer a Zero-Waste Future in aviation

JEDDAH: IN a landmark step toward transforming sustainability across the aviation sector, Saudia Group has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Loop KSA, a leading Saudi company specialising in circular economy and sustainable waste management solutions. The agreement reinforces Saudia’s commitment to environmental stewardship and supports national objectives under Saudi Vision 2030.

The MoU, signed by Ms Maryam Telmesani, Vice President of Sustainability at Saudia Group, and Mr Ali Bakhalgi, Chief Executive Officer of Loop, sets the stage for developing advanced infrastructure to embed circular economy principles across Saudia Group’s operations. This includes the launch of the Group’s first comprehensive waste management program, designed to significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

As part of the initiative, the partnership will conduct a full assessment of current waste streams, enabling the creation of Saudia Group’s first-ever “Zero-Waste” strategy. The strategy will encompass recycling programs, integrated waste-collection and processing systems, and awareness campaigns targeting both employees and the wider community. The agreement also incorporates ongoing performance evaluation and preparation for international recycling certifications—reinforcing Saudia’s pursuit of global best practices.

Symbolising the first tangible step under the new partnership, approximately 6,000 cabin crew uniforms were handed over for recycling during the signing ceremony, marking the beginning of a new era of responsible resource management within the airline group.
