Samia’s sports leadership propellers social cohesion

TANZANIA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has marked three years in office, bringing aboard significant changes across various sectors.
Notably, culture, art and sport have received attention and development under her leadership.
With a vision to use these avenues to promote national unity and identity, President Samia has prioritised their growth.
Regarding sports, President Samia’s administration has focused on developing the nation’s athletic talent and infrastructure.
Recognising the transformative power of sports in promoting health, unity and national pride, her government has prioritised initiatives aimed at expanding access to sports facilities and programmes, particularly in underserved communities.
This has led to increased participation in sports at all levels, including the CAF Champions League, All African Games, and African Cup of Nation (AFCON), with Tanzanian athletes achieving notable successes on the international stage.
One of the hallmark achievements of President Samia’s tenure has been the revitalisation of Tanzania’s sports infrastructure.
Significant investments have been made under her leadership in the construction and renovation of sports facilities across the country, ensuring that athletes have access to modern, world-class venues to train and compete.
For instance, the construction of sports centres in Tanga and Kigamboni, which were under the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), are remarkable achievements of President Samia.
This commitment to infrastructure development has not only improved the quality of sporting events within Tanzania but also positioned the country as a potential host for regional and international competitions, further boosting its standing in the global sports community.
Various sports stakeholders in Tanzania have praised President Samia for her leadership in the sports sector.
Hussein Massanza, the Media and Communication Manager for Singida Fountain Gate, commended the president for her contribution in sports, especially in encouraging various clubs in the country to perform well.
Massanza highlighted the President’s proactive approach in engaging with clubs like Simba and Yanga, promising to sponsor each goal they score in international competitions.
Massanza also commended the President for appointing competent sports enthusiasts to key positions in the sports sector.
“President Samia has been a vocal advocate for using sport as a tool for social development and community empowerment.
“From promoting sports as a means of promoting health and well-being to using athletics as a platform for promoting social cohesion and unity, her administration has demonstrated a commitment to harnessing the power of sport for positive change,” he explained.
He cited the appointment of Damas Ndumbaro as the Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports, and Hamis Mwinjuma as the deputy minister as exemplary call.
According to Massanza, President Samia’s involvement in sports, culture, and arts has brought about significant progress in many football teams in the country.
He, however, urged the government to enhance its sports policies to accommodate a broader range of sporting activities, which he believes will increase Tanzania’s recognition in the sports sector.
Former Simba player, George Masatu echoes Massanza’s sentiments, acknowledging President Samia’s commitment to sports development in Tanzania.
Masatu emphasizes the positive impact of President Samia’s leadership on using sports as a tool for social development and community empowerment.
He explained that her administration has demonstrated a commitment to harnessing the power of sports for positive change. Similarly, another former Simba player, Dua Said, lauded President Samia’s leadership in the sports sector.
He inspires stakeholders to advocate for further improvements in sports policies and the expansion of sporting activities across the nation.
Emmanuel Maghembe, a Tanzania football fan, also praised President Samia’s appointment of competent sports enthusiasts to key positions within the sports sector.
He believes that the appointment of Ndumbaro and Mwinjuma hs brought about significant transformation in the country.
President Samia’s three-year tenure has seen remarkable progress in the sectors of culture, art, and sports in Tanzania.
