KATAVI: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged parents across the country to prioritise the ethical upbringing of their children.
Her remarks came during the closing ceremony of a week-long celebration for the ruling party Parents’ Wing at Azimio grounds in the Mlele District of Katavi Region.
Highlighting the critical role of families in shaping future generations, President Samia emphasised the im- portance of parents working together with teachers and other institutions.
“Our children are the future leaders,” she said, “focus deeply on their upbringing.”Dr Samia acknowledged the challenges faced by parents in today’s fast-paced world, particularly the time constraints experienced by both working parents and stay-at-home mothers who shoulder a significant burden of agricultural and economic activities.
“We all recognise the struggle for time,” she said, “but the way you raise and nurture children is how they will turn out. Let’s raise them well, so we can have good leaders.”
The President’s message went beyond traditional notions of parenting.
She addressed the growing concern of mental health issues, urging collaboration between the CCM Parents’ Wing with experts to understand the causes, find solutions and advise the government.
“We must work together to safeguard our youths against the scourge of substance abuse and mental health challenges,” she said.
“Research indicates that a significant percentage of Tanzanians are affected by mental health issues, necessitating urgent intervention and support from the gov- ernment and community,” she said.
Additionally, she called for cooperation with institu- tions working on drug con- trol to safeguard the youth.
President Samia also addressed contemporary challenges impacting youth, including technological influences and social pressures.
“Our children are ex- posed to various technologies through which they learn extensively. Parents must remain vigilant and engaged in guiding their children through these influ- ences,” she said.
“The Parents’ Wing holds significant importance within the CCM and has a rich history within our party,” remarked President Samia.
