Samia to grace ALAT’s 39th annual meet

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to officiate the 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Local Authorities of Tanzania (ALAT), scheduled for today in Dodoma.

The meeting, which will bring together mayors, council directors, members of parliament, and council chairpersons, aims to provide a key platform for discussing local government performance and future strategies.

Speaking to journalists, ALAT National Chairperson Mr Murshid Ngeze said that all preparations for the meeting had been finalised, with President Samia as the chief guest, alongside other dignitaries from both within and outside the country.

Mr Ngeze said that the meeting would also provide an opportunity to receive reports from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG), approve the new financial year’s budget, and assess the performance of local government authorities under the sixth phase government.

“During this period, our councils have received significant funding from the government. This meeting will offer an opportunity for self-evaluation regarding the performance of local government authorities nationwide,” he said.

He also said that ALAT plans to construct a commercial building in Dodoma to boost its revenue and enhance operations.

“We have secured a 6,000-square-metre plot in Dodoma, where we plan to build an income-generating facility that will increase revenue and provide a venue for ALAT meetings and activities,” Mr Ngeze added.

Earlier scheduled to take place in Mwanza from February 17 to 21,this year, the ALAT Annual General Meeting was later postponed and relocated to Dodoma.
