Samia salutes Russian valour on victory day

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has extended warm congratulations to her Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin and the people of the Russian Federation on the occasion of Victory Day, a solemn commemoration of the allied victory in the Second World War.
Victory Day, observed every May 9, celebrates the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945.
In an official message addressed through her X account to the Russian leader, President Samia acknowledged the historic significance of the day, marking the 80th anniversary of the 1945 victory.
She said the day serves as a powerful symbol of courage and resilience, marking a historic triumph that came at a great human cost.
“On behalf of the people of the United Republic of Tanzania and on my own behalf, I extend our warmest congratulations to you on the occasion of Victory Day, a momentous date that symbolises the heroism, resilience and sacrifice of the Russian people in the struggle for freedom and peace,” said President Samia.
The Head of State added that the legacy of the victory continues to inspire nations around the world to uphold the values of peace, justice and international cooperation.
“Today, as then, the memory of this remarkable day continues to inspire all nations to uphold peace, justice and cooperation,” she said.
President Samia also underscored the importance of continued friendly relations between Tanzania and Russia, rooted in mutual respect and solidarity.

She expressed her heartfelt wishes for ongoing peace, prosperity and continued success to President Putin, his government and the Russian people.
“Please accept my heartfelt wishes for continued peace, prosperity and success for you, your government and the people of the Russian Federation,” she said.
Yesterday, President Vladimir Putin led Russia’s Victory Day commemorations with a parade attended by China’s Xi Jinping at Red Square, Moscow.
President Vladimir Putin stood beside Xi, several dozen other leaders and Russian veterans on a roofed tribune beside Vladimir Lenin’s mausoleum on Red Square as Russian troops marched past.
Putin and Xi were joined by scores of other world leaders, most of whom had the black and orange ribbon of Saint George pinned to their lapels.
Many of them have also sent troops to march in the parade, alongside Russian servicemen.
