President Samia points paths to success
DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday revealed that she chose participatory method as the right approach and special strategy in leading the nation.
The Head of State made the remarks in Dar es Salaam when gracing the Citizen Rising Woman gala dinner’s season four.
The event that was organized and coordinated by Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) was part of the activities to celebrate International Women’s Day which was observed yesterday across the globe.
“I am grateful that the 4R philosophy (Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms and Rebuilding) has been positively received by Tanzanians. The philosophy helps me to involve more people in making decisions, including charting the way forward as I lead the nation,” President Samia asserted.
Adding:” I do believe the decisions to run the country remain the responsibility of every Tanzanian… participation is the approach I chose in running the country.”
Dr Samia introduced the 4Rs philosophy to maintain peace and stability in the country.
Regarding the International Women’s Day, the Head of State encouraged women to participate in both local government election later this year and the general election to be held next year.
“Ahead of forthcoming elections, I would like to encourage women to show up and participate in big numbers …this would help them to communicate their concerns,” she underlined.
President Samia expressed the government commitment to attain the 50/50 threshold but was quick to warn that such a goal will never come on a silver plate, insisting that delivering to the expectations of the public would always be the key.
“Women have to show up in the forthcoming elections, and the electorate will go with the competent ones,” she underlined.
Coupled with that, President Samia called upon Tanzanians to uphold peace and stability in the upcoming elections.
In a related development, the President insisted on good parenting to enable children to be responsible citizens, saying any human being created by God is capable of doing something good for the community.
“If we raise our children in good morals they will do wonders,” she expounded.
Earlier, the Minister for Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye commended measures being instituted by President Samia since coming to power to promote press freedom and adopt participatory approach, which is attracting investments in the information sector.
“You have availed freedom to journalists in our country. Your eye realized that our country needs broad democracy and reconciliation after which you crafted the 4R philosophy that has taken our country into the right direction,” Nape underscored.
For his part, Chief Executive Officer for Mwananchi Communications Ltd (MCL), Mr Bakari Machumu said the purpose of the event was to celebrate and recognize the success of the women in various positions.
He further noted that MCL would continue to educate and inform the society about gender equality to ensure that the contribution of every woman is counted through the theme ‘count her in’.
In Dodoma, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa asked women from across the country to show up in bigger numbers to vie for various posts in the much-awaited 2024 civic polls as well as turning up to vote during the election day.
The Premier issued the directive during the climax of the International Women’s Day held at Dodoma’s Chinangali II Primary School in the country’s capital.
In his speech read on his behalf by the Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr Doroth Gwajima, Mr Majaliwa also directed women to join different development groups so that they tap different opportunities in women empowerment initiatives.
“I also wish to ask all stakeholders to fully participate in the implementation of the National Policy on Gender and Women Development, 2023,’’ he added.
Mr Majaliwa also directed that several strategies to curb gender-based violence and violence against children should be put in place as well as having preventive measures in efforts to join hands with the government to curb such malpractices.
