PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has pledged to purchase 5000 tickets for fans to enable them cheer Young Africans in the first leg match of the Confederation Cup final against USM Alger at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam this Sunday.
Chief Government Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa affirmed the good news yesterday in the city during a press conference calling on other stakeholders to follow suit.
He also used the platform to present Yanga with a 20m/- cash prize from President Samia’s motivation package for two goals Yanga netted in their second leg semifinal game against Marumo Gallants in South Africa, where they won 2-1.
“Aside from the President’s pledging to award 20m/- every goal they score in the upcoming two-legged Confederation Cup finals, she has also promised to buy 5000 tickets for fans wishing to cheer the team against the Algerians,” Msigwa said.
He then urged other stakeholders to join the good gesture shown by the Head of State to purchase tickets insisting such support will boost players’ morale at Benjamin Mkapa.
“We have to use well the home-ground advantage of the first leg match…we now know how North African teams play; hence a need to defeat them at home is crucial and extend our chances to bring home the silverware.
“We have already written history, and it is time to finish it. The whole of Africa is talking about Yanga, and on behalf of President Samia, I congratulate you for enhancing the country’s football reputation on the continent,” he said.
Moreover, he assured the envoys that they should always be aware that the Head of State is with them, hence why she has pledged to provide a flight that will transport players and fans to and from Algeria for the reverse leg final match of the contest.
In the semifinals alone, Yanga earned 40m/- from the president’s motivation package after scoring four goals in their two assignments against Marumo Gallants.
However, apart from Yanga, Simba also benefited from the goal bonuses provided by President Samia during their featuring in the CAF Champions League, where they ended in the quarterfinals phase. In March, President Samia pledged to offer a 500m/- bonus to the national team (Taifa Stars) if it qualifies to play the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for Ivory Coast in 2024.
