PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has sent condolences to the People’s Republic of China President Xi Jinping following the demise of the country’s former head of State, Jiang Zemin.
China authorities announced the death of Zemin on Wednesday.
Zemin, aged 96, died in Shanghai after losing battle to leukemia and multiple organ failure.
Using her verified Twitter handle @SuluhuSamia, the Head of State said Tanzania has. It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of the 5th President of the People’s Republic of China, Jiang Zemin.
“My deepest condolences to His Excellency President Xi Jinping, his family, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people. May his soul rest in peace,” she tweeted.

Jiang Zemin served as general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 1989 to 2002, as chairman of the Central Military Commission from 1989 to 2004, and as president of China from 1993 to 2003.
According to RT, Jiang stepped down from his leadership positions over the course of several years from 2002 onward, making way for the Hu Jintao administration.
“He is credited with overseeing a peaceful transition of power, in contrast to the more chaotic shifts seen previously in China’s modern history,” reads the RT’s website.
