President Samia makes sweeping changes as Tanzania gets new deputy PM

TANZANIA, Dodoma PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has made a minor cabinet reshuffle as well as establishing new post of Deputy Prime Minister and two new dockets.

Dr Doto Biteko has been appointed as the country’s new Deputy Premier, according to a press statement issued by the State House in Dodoma on Wednesday.

The new deputy Premier will also serve as the new Minister of Energy.

Under the new post of Deputy PM, Dr Biteko will deal with coordination of the Government’s businesses.

According to the Statement, the Head of State has dissolved the Ministry of Works and Transport to form two dockets namely the Ministry of Works and Ministry of Transport which will be led by Mr Innocent Bashungwa and Professor Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa respectively.

Prior to their appointments, Mr Bashungwa was the Minister of Minister of Defence and National Service while Prof Mbarawa was leading the dissolved Ministry of Works and of Transport.

On the other side, President Samia appointed Ukonga MP Jerry Silaa as the new Minister for Land, Housing and Human Settlements Development.

He is taking over from Dr Angeline Mabula.

The President has also appointed the former Deputy Minister for then Ministry of Works and Transport Geofrey Kasekenya as the new Deputy Minister for the newly formed Works docket.

Alexander Mnyeti, Misungwi MP, has been named as the deputy minister for Agriculture, replacing Mr Mavunde who is the new Deputy Minister of Minerals.

Other appointed deputy Ministers and their respective dockets are David Kihenzile (Transport), Judith Kapinga (Energy) and Dustan Kitandula (Natural Resources and Tourism). Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mr Anthony Mavude as the new deputy minister of Minerals.

Dr Samia has also transferred six ministers and one deputy minister as indicated in the table below.
