Earlier, President Samia had launched a modern science laboratory at Kizimkazi Secondary School under CRDB Bank financing.

CRDB Bank’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Tully Mwambapa said the financial institution is eager to collaborate with Kizimkazi residents to uplift the social lives and economic activities in South Unguja region.

She said the bank has spent over 215m/- on the 2022 Kizimkazi Festivals, which climax here today.

President Samia also launched an imposing examination hall, which intends to boost learning environment at Kizimkazi Dimbani Secondary School.

“Our children will have an apt venue for examinations; other social services will also be hosted here,” Principal Secretary in the Second Vice-President’s Office, Policy, Coordination and House of Representatives Thabit Idarous Faina said of the 300-student capacity structure, which has cost 174m/-.

Wananchi contributed 465,000/- and 16m/- in cash and labour, respectively, to the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) financed project, which includes eight toilet vents and one VIP room as well as power and water systems.

Kizimkazi Police Station was also on the pre-Kizimkazi festival climax’s presidential itinerary. “This is a model police station; I wish to see all stations in Zanzibar looking this way,” President Samia said of the 292m/- station, which she said has taken into account all the needs of a human being.

She implored Kizimkazi residents to collaborate with the law enforcers in not only using but also conserving the station: “This is not a police property; it’s ours, the Kizimkazi residents…let’s take good care of it.”

The station, besides the offices and remand rooms for juveniles, males and females, has one residential house that will accommodate two families, including the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

Kizimkazi, President Samia’s ancestral home, is endowed with substantial economic opportunities—farming, tourism, fishing and trade—which still yearn for exploration.

Kizimkazi Festival is part of the initiatives to promote especially South Unguja region and the entire Zanzibar, nationally and internationally.

Kizimkazi festival started as a farewell ceremony for President Samia in August 2015 after completing her tenure as Makunduchi Member of Parliament and getting appointed as CCM presidential running mate under the late John Magufuli.

The festivities were in 2016 transformed into Samia Day under a special Samia Day committee, which was coordinating the celebrations at Kizimkazi Mkunguni up to 2018, when the name was changed to Kizimkazi Day, incorporating residents from Kizimkazi Dimbani.

Since then the festival has been growing, incorporating more Shehias—Mtende, Kibuteni and Muyuni.
