Samia endorses Mulamula for Commonwealth Secretariat SG post

President Samia Suluhu Hassan endorsed former Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula in the election of Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

President Samia believes that Amb Mulamula’s experience in diplomatic matters will have a great contribution in strengthening the relationship between Tanzania and the commonwealth community.

The Secretary-General is nominated by Commonwealth leaders and can serve a maximum of two terms of four years each.

Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr Gerson Msigwa told HabariLEO, a sister paper to the Daily Newspaper that the election of Ambassador Mulamula will be of great benefit as she will help some of Tanzania’s agendas to be considered within the commonwealth community.

“The government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has endorsed her name and supports her because it believes in her abilities, she will represent the country well and she will be a good ambassador for Tanzania and Africa in general,” he said.

Mr Msigwa asked the delegates who will take place in appointing Amb Mulamula to give her enough votes because she will make a great contribution to the development of the community and the world in general.

Patricia Scotland who is the Commonwealth Secretary-General will hand over her position in 2024 when her official second term expires.

She is the 6th Commonwealth Secretary-General and the first woman to hold the post.
