Samia demands results-driven public sector to fast-track national development

DAR ES SALAAM:  PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged public institutions to shift decisively from routine administration to results-oriented performance, warning that Tanzania’s development ambitions will only be realised through strong leadership, accountability and effective execution.

Speaking during the National Dividend Day ceremony at State House in Dar es Salaam today, President Samia said the availability of resources, policies and development plans alone is not enough to guarantee success if institutions are not properly managed and held to clear performance outcomes.

She said public institutions must demonstrate how their work improves economic growth, public services and citizens’ welfare instead of producing reports dominated by figures with limited impact.

“Leadership and governance in managing our public institutions must receive serious attention. Without effective leadership, we may fail to achieve our goals even when resources are available,” she said.

The President said Tanzania Vision 2050 provides a long-term direction for the country, supported by development plans, policies and implementation strategies.

However, she stressed that the success of the vision will depend on how well institutions turn plans into action.

“Development plans, strategies and policies alone are not enough. The real measure is implementation and the ability to transform those plans into results,” she said.

President Samia called on leaders, boards of directors and executives of public institutions to strengthen accountability, oversight and performance management.

She warned that institutions with adequate resources can still fail if they lack proper leadership and effective management systems.

The President also urged public institutions to embrace innovation, improve resource mobilisation and use available assets efficiently to support economic transformation.

She said achieving Tanzania’s long-term development goals will require more than financial investment, it will require strong institutions capable of converting plans into visible improvements for citizens.
