A long-time Malaysian statesman, Ibrahim was sworn in on Thursday as the Malaysian new Prime Minister, after the Southeast Asian nation’s palace appointed the opposition leader ending a protracted election deadlock.

For decades Tanzania and Malaysia have been enjoying a cordial relationship that has facilitated business between members of the two countries.

Statistics show that during 2020, Malaysia had a large net trade with Tanzania in the exports of animal and vegetable bi-products (128Million US Dollars), metals (8.53million US dollars), and mineral products (4.18million US Dollars).

At the same time, Tanzania recorded a large net trade with Malaysia in the export of mineral products (57 million US dollars), foodstuffs (5.52 million US dollars), and vegetable products (3.53 Million US dollars).

Also, Tanzania has continued with efforts to attract more investors in various sectors, especially in setting up edible oil manufacturing plants.

In May this year, Minister for Investment, Industry and Trade Dr Ashatu Kijaji asked Malaysian investors to set up edible oil processing factories in Tanzania.

“Malaysia is renowned for its edible oil production. We want to benefit from your valuable experience,” she said.

Eight of the prospective investors came from Malaysia and were accompanied by Tanzanian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Dr Ramadhani Dau.

The envoy said the high commission was talking with Access Logistics Company to explore ways of investing in Tanzania.
