SADC briefs the Tanzanian envoys on its 47th Ministers’ meeting

PRETORIA: TANZANIA’S Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Ngwaru Maghembe, and Deputy Minister for Finance, Laurent Luswetula, have arrived in Pretoria, South Africa, to participate in the 47th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which will focus on key regional development priorities and the implementation of the bloc’s strategic programmes.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on March 12 and 13, 2026 in Pretoria.
According to a statement from the Ministry, upon their arrival today, March 11, 2026, the two ministers received briefings from technical experts at the Tanzania Embassy in South Africa regarding discussions held during the preparatory meetings leading to the ministerial session.
The preparatory meetings included the meeting of Senior Officials and Permanent Secretaries that reviewed the implementation of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP), held on March 4 and 5, 2026. This was followed by the Standing Committee of Permanent Secretaries meeting on March 7 and 8, and the Finance Committee meeting held on March 9, 2026.
The ministers were also briefed on their participation in the 47th SADC Council of Ministers meeting, which will be held at the conference facilities located within the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation offices.
While at the embassy, the ministers also received an update on the state of relations and cooperation between Tanzania and countries within the mission’s area of representation. The briefing was delivered by Tanzania’s Ambassador to South Africa, James Bwana.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, led the Tanzanian delegation during the preparatory meetings ahead of the council session.
