RUWASA to drill 19 water wells in Buchosa

THE Rural and Urban Water Sanitation Authority (Ruwasa) is set to embark on drilling 19 wells at a cost of over 500m/- in Buchosa District Council to serve residents in the area with clean and safe water.

The drilling will start next week and is expected to be completed   within six months, said Ruwasa District Manager, Engineer George Massawe.

“We are now drilling a water well in Nyangalamila B village, after the previous one was damaged,” he said.

The water well currently under construction is expected to be completed this week and will serve about 4,000 Nyangalamila B villagers, in Ilenze Ward, he said.

Each water well, including the one under construction is expected to cost not less than 27m/-, according to Engineer Massawe.

He said that besides the construction of wells, the government has set aside over 2bn/- for the implementation of Ilenze Water project in next financial year, will benefit about 18,000 residents in the Ward.

“The project will provide permanent solution to water woes in the area,” assured Engineer Massawe.

Nyangalamila B villagers, including Ms Elizabeth Deus, commended Ruwasa for efforts it has made to construct emergency water well and called upon relevant authorities to act against Nyangalamila Ward Councilor, who had deliberately destroyed the previous water facility.

Before the construction of the well people were used to use water from from Lake Victoria, whose quality was questionable.
