Rotary lifts 4,000 students off the floor

Over 4,000 primary school pupils have been lifted off the floor, thanks to the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam’s desk project.

The club has so far donated in excess of 1,600 desks, sitting over 4,500 pupils at any one given time. The desks worth in excess of 250m/-.

Speaking during the desk handover event at Mwananyamala B Primary School in Dar es Salaam, Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam president, Nikki Aggarwal said that the club’s goal is to invest in the future of Tanzania by empowering children through education.

She also mentioned that the desks are made with a steel frame and treated hardwood to ensure the durability of the desks for many years.

Kinondoni Member of Parliament Tarimba Abbas, commended Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam for the huge support in education, saying that public school still faces a huge shortage of desks.

“We are very delighted with the support we receive from Rotary. You are doing a noble undertaking as the desks donated will be used by hundreds of pupils for several years to come.

He pledged that the desks will be properly used and maintained in order to last longer and serve more students.

The desk project goes hand in hand with tree plantation drive where two trees are planted for every desk donated to neutralize the environmental impact of the donated desk.
