Rorya benefits from NMB educational support

MARA: NMB Bank has donated desks and roofing materials to five schools in Rorya District, Mara Region, valued at over 80m/-.

The donation included 250 desks and 368 roofing sheets distributed among the beneficiary schools. Minigo Primary School received 100 desks, Nyanduru Primary School was also allocated 100 desks, Gilango Primary School received 168 roofing sheets, while Kiamwani Primary School obtained 100 iron sheets, timber and nails.

Additionally, Professor Philemon Sarungi Secondary School was the recipient of two new dormitory buildings and a cash donation of 15m/- for further development.

Furthermore, NMB Bank carried out renovation of seven classrooms at Minigo Primary School and completed the construction of a new classroom at the same institution. Rorya District Commissioner Juma Chikoka, expressed gratitude to NMB for their significant contribution to improving educational infrastructure in the district.

“Your [NMB] contributions are significant and you are also a good reason for the prosperity this district is proud of,” he said.

He acknowledged the district’s persistent challenges with deteriorating educational infrastructure and commended the support received from NMB, which has notably helped three secondary schools in Rorya District to rank among the top ten in the region during the national Form Four examinations (NECTA). In a separate request, Mr Chikoka urged NMB to extend financial assistance to fishermen for fish farming and provide loans to farmers for irrigation agriculture.

NMB’s Lake Zone Acting Manager Hamadan Sillia affirmed the bank’s commitment to continuing community support, emphasising that addressing various societal challenges remains a key priority for the institution.

The Minigo Primary School Headteacher Joseph Onyango, highlighted the positive impact of the lender’s assistance, citing increased student attendance due to improved classroom facilities and expressing optimism for improved academic performance in the future.
