Residents urged to prioritise fire safety

DODOMA: DODOMA District Administrative Secretary (DAS) Sakina Mbugi has called on residents to strengthen cooperation with the Fire and Rescue Force to prevent fire incidents and enhance the safety of lives and property.

Speaking after officiating a sports bonanza organised ahead of World Firefighters’ Day to be marked on May 4, 2026, Ms Mbugi said the commemoration highlights the critical role played by the Fire and Rescue Force in protecting communities.

She noted that the event also provides an opportunity for the public to reflect on the importance of early precautions to avert fire disasters.

She said Dodoma District continues to experience rapid growth in economic activities, settlements and business operations, factors that heighten the need for strict adherence to fire safety measures at home, in markets, institutions and workplaces.

“The Fire and Rescue Force does tremendous work in saving lives and safeguarding public and private property. It is therefore the responsibility of each citizen to cooperate by observing safety guidelines and reporting risks promptly,” she said.

Ms Mbugi further urged property owners, institutions and business operators to install fire extinguishers, conduct regular electrical inspections and provide training on emergency response procedures.

This year’s World Firefighters’ Day celebrations in the region are expected to bring together residents, leaders and stakeholders to raise community awareness on rescue operations and fire safety.
