Relegated Kagera Sugar vow final fight for pride

KAGERA: DESPITE their fate being sealed by relegation from the top flight, Kagera Sugar’s Head Coach, Juma Kaseja, has rallied his squad for a determined final push in their remaining two Premier League matches.

Currently sitting 15th on the table, the Bukoba-based club are determined to conclude their campaign with dignity and professionalism.

The club take on Namungo FC on Wednesday next week at the Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa, Lindi before wrapping up their season against Simba SC on June 22 at the KMC Stadium in Kinondoni District of Dar es Salaam region.

In a strategic move, Kaseja has opted to hold preparations in Dar es Salaam, breaking from tradition by skipping pre-match training in Bukoba to minimise travel fatigue and logistical hurdles ahead of the long journey to Ruangwa.

β€œWe’re in a tough spot having been relegated, but that doesn’t mean we surrender,” said Kaseja.

β€œWe’re beginning early preparations with the aim of collecting all six points. These 180 minutes of football still matter.”

The squad is set to report to camp tomorrow, with training commencing immediately. Kaseja emphasised the importance of motivation and professionalism, noting that the team must still represent the club with honour and determination.

β€œEven though our league standing is not where we hoped, Kagera Sugar name still carries respect. My job now is to motivate the players to fight for the badge. We must show our identity, even in defeat,” said Kaseja.

He was quick to dismiss any notion that the remaining fixtures would be mere formalities or easy wins for opponents.

Instead, he insisted Kagera Sugar would compete with full intensity and dignity. β€œ

We’re not just here to complete fixtures we’re here to fight. We refuse to be an easy target or a stepping stone for others. This club has proudly competed in the Premier League since its promotion in 2004, and we intend to honour that legacy until the final whistle,” he said.
