For his part, the Chairman of the Rural Energy Board (REB), Ambassador Retired Major General Jacob Kingu, has thanked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for approving the implementation of the project which has brought a permanent electricity solution to the area.

Ambassador Kingu also stressed the importance of citizens using electricity to initiate development projects as well as to seize opportunities for clean cooking energy to protect the environment.

In turn, the Director of Rural Electrification from REA, Engineer Jones Olotu, said the project is part of the implementation of the Government’s strategy to ensure that citizens in rural areas and areas on the outskirts of cities have access to reliable electricity.

Eng Olotu added that before the delivery of national grid electricity, the area had been using solar electricity through the people and electricity Company since 2017 but the 2020-2025 Election Manifesto directed the Government to change the system and deploy national grid electricity to facilitate greater use of electricity that will help run industrial machinery and other essential services.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Watu na Umeme Ltd, Dr Prosper Magali, said the initial solar power project started in 2014 and was able to serve 254 households, but current demand has increased, requiring grid electricity.

Dr Magali thanked REA for its great collaboration to achieve the current step of handing over the infrastructure to TANESCO, which will improve services to the public.

The project is described as a major development step for the residents of Mpale Subdistricts, where they now expect to benefit from reliable electricity that will enable economic growth and improve their lives.
