RC: GGML, TACAIDS initiative revitalises HIV fight
KILIMANJARO: KILIMANJARO Regional Commissioner, Mr Nurdin Babu, stated that the partnership between Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) and the Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS) is injecting renewed energy into the government’s commitment to eliminate HIV/AIDS and achieve the Three Zeros, zero new infections, zero stigma and zero AIDS-related deaths by 2030.
This year’s Kili Challenge campaign, sponsored by GGML, aims to raise over 2bn/- to support the government’s initiative. At a ceremony in Moshi, Mr Babu honoured 49 climbers and 17 cyclists from the 23rd Mount Kilimanjaro climb.
He praised their leadership and unity, noting that such efforts remind everyone that fighting HIV is a shared responsibility.
Acting GGML Managing Director, Mr Ashraf Suryaningrat, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to public health and community development.

Highlighting this year’s campaign theme, “What if we gave up?,” he commended the participants’ determination to support millions living with HIV/AIDS.
Celebrating 25 years of responsible gold mining in Tanzania, Mr Suryaningrat emphasised GGML’s contributions to education, health, clean water, infrastructure and entrepreneurship.
As part of the anniversary, GGML raised a commemorative flag atop Mount Kilimanjaro, symbolising excellence, accountability, resilience and collaboration. Mbogwe District Commissioner, Ms Sakina Jumanne Mohamed, praised the Kili Challenge’s dedication to combating HIV/AIDS on behalf of the Geita Regional Commissioner.
Dr Samwel Sumba, Acting Executive Director of TACAIDS, lauded the event as a national benchmark for fundraising and sustainable health promotion. He emphasised that funds raised are transparently directed to beneficiaries across Tanzania.
The fundraising campaign continues until October 2025, inviting partners, donors and the public to contribute toward the 2bn/- target.
