Public warned against selfmedication

KAGERA: TANZANIANS have been cautioned against the growing and worrying trend of using drugs without consulting a medical doctor.

Kagera Regional Pharmacist, Mr Paul Jisena explained that the government through the Ministry of Health has all along been warning individuals against the worrying trend.

He warned that buying medicine without consulting a doctor is dangerous to health, advising people to speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking medication for the first time, follow instructions, read medical labels, and take medicine on time.

Mr Jisena explained that taking drugs in a way that has not been recommended by a doctor can be more dangerous than people think. In fact, it’s drug abuse and it is illegal, just like taking street drugs, he said.

He Equally encouraged Tanzanians to conduct regular check-up for them to take right measures to protect themselves against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, cancers, stroke and hypertension.
