Public servants urged to uphold integrity as Tanzania marks Customer Service Week

DODOMA: PUBLIC servants across the country have been urged to deliver quality services to citizens with integrity and accountability to help the government achieve its broader goal of improving public service delivery.

Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Juma Mkomi, made the call in Dodoma on Thursday while speaking to media outlets about Customer Service Week.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to the constitutional mandate that requires public servants to promote the welfare of citizens through effective and ethical service delivery.

“This week offers an opportunity for reflection and self-assessment. Public servants should learn from client feedback to improve attitudes, behaviour, and service procedures for the benefit of the nation,” he said.

He noted that the President’s Office continues to emphasize its core values of patriotism, integrity, excellence, performance, and customer-first, which form the foundation of a results-oriented and accountable public service.

“This guiding philosophy pushes us toward a public service that is efficient, transparent, and dedicated to national well-being,” he added.

This year’s observance is being held under the theme “A Possible Mission,” which, according to Mkomi, aligns with the sixth-phase government’s firm commitment to serving citizens through tangible action.

He said the government has the resources, plans, and sound policies that focus on citizens who remain the primary clients in the public service system.

Mkomi reminded public servants that national welfare can only be achieved through service delivery anchored in professional ethics and discipline.

“When serving the Tanzanian citizens, it is essential to be neat, honest, courteous, respectful, humane, corruption-free, and empathetic toward the people you serve,” he stressed.

He urged the public servants to view Customer Service Week as a platform for behavioural and operational transformation, noting that ethical service reduces complaints and strengthens public trust in government.

In a related note, Mkomi encouraged all public servants to exercise their constitutional right to vote in the October 29, 2025 General Election, which includes positions for councillors, Members of Parliament, and the Presidency.

“We are in an election month, and it is every public servant’s duty to participate by casting their vote for leaders of their choice in the interest of the nation,” he said.
