PSSSF urges early submission of retirement

ARUSHA: THE Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF) has intensified efforts to ensure retirees receive their benefits before their official retirement date, urging Human Resource officers to submit employees’ records early to eliminate delays and complaints associated with retirement payments.
Speaking during the opening of a training session for employers and officers responsible for PSSSF members’ affairs from various public institutions in Arusha Region, the Arusha District Administrative Secretary, Dr Jacob Rombo said timely processing of retirement benefits largely depends on the accuracy and prompt submission of employees’ records by employers.
Dr Rombo represented the Arusha Regional Administrative Secretary, Dr Toba Nguvila, at the event. He said many delays in processing retirement benefits and complaints from retiree’s stem from incomplete documentation and late submission of records by employers, particularly as employees approach retirement age.
“Every public servant has official employment records from the day they are recruited until retirement. It is important that all documents are properly maintained and easily accessible whenever needed so that retirees can receive their lumpsum benefits without complications,” Dr Nguvila said.

He urged Human Resource officers to verify and submit records of employees nearing retirement well in advance to enable the timely processing and payment of benefits. Dr Nguvila also called on Human Resource officers to serve public servants and members of the public professionally by providing accurate information and responding promptly to their concerns.
Speaking during the training session, PSSSF NorthWestern Zone Manager Yessaya Mwakifulefule said the programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of officers on recent improvements and new services introduced by the Fund, while enhancing collaboration with employers to speed up the processing of retirement benefits. He said the Fund has introduced measures to ensure retirees receive their benefits before leaving public service.
“Our Fund is implementing a programme to ensure retirees receive their benefits one day before their official retirement date,” Mr Mwakifulefule said.
He said that when employers submit complete contribution records on time, the Fund is able to calculate and pay 100 per cent of retirement benefits before an employee officially retires.
Mr Mwakifulefule urged Human Resource officers to closely monitor and verify records of employees approaching retirement to ensure they receive their benefits on time and without unnecessary challenges.
