Entrepreneurs in the country have been asked to make good use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in promoting their businesses to reach the international market.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology, Dr Jim Yonazi made the remarks during the 7th Tanzania Industrial Products Exhibition taking place at the Sabasaba grounds along Kilwa Road in Dar es Salaam.
“I ask all businessmen and entrepreneurs to see the importance of ICT in promoting their business and penetrating the global markets,” he said.
Dr Yonazi said that ICT has played a major role in promoting the country’s economy, so they should all work as a team to prepare children to have awareness of issues of science and technology for the country’s development.
He also said that the statistics show that 65 per cent of children who are at school will need jobs that demand science and technology application.
“If we use the opportunity of ICT to teaching our children, it will help us a lot to have a generation that knows the importance of technology in developing their economy and the nation in general,” said Yonazi.
Dr Yonazi also said that through his ministry, in collaboration with ICT stakeholders, they have been able to take the technology to neighbouring countries including DR Congo.
He also thanked the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) for seeing the importance of organizing ICT celebrations in industrial and business exhibitions where it has been able to bring together more than 500 businessmen and entrepreneurs.
On her side, the Director General of the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) Ms Latifa Mohamed said the technology sector has been doing well as it has been greatly helping businessmen to advertise their business through the ICT system.
In ensuring this, Ms Mohamed said the Ministry has set up a one-stop centre that brings together various business stakeholders in promoting their business internationally.
She also thanked the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology for being an example in providing and encouraging awareness of ICT to Tanzanians to promote the digital economy.
