THE Arusha’s Kili Golf course will be a beehive of activities when professional golfers tee off today to light up this year’s Sterling Tanzania Ladies Open tour.
Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) president, Queen Siraki said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that preparation has been finalised and everything is in place for the course to host an epic event today.
With professional golfers tasked to ignite the tee off, the event’s sponsors have promised a good package for them.
“The preparation for the event has been finalised, as pros open the battle today as the main event tees off on Friday at the same course. I want to thank all players enlisted for the event and sponsors who backed this prestigious event,” she said.
Adding, Siraki said over 20 professional golfers from across the country, including the country’s only lady pro, Angel Eaton from Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf club of Dar es Salaam will be engaged in today’s massive tee off.
The main event of the annual 54- hole ladies’ battle will start on Friday and wind up on Sunday.
This year’s Tanzania Ladies Open has drawn on course golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia and host Tanzania.
The title sponsor of the three-day tournament is Sterling Surfactants Ltd and through its Marketing manager Lambert Kishato, the company is pleased to get the opportunity to be associated with TLGU in supporting the event.
“I want to promise our company full commitment to the competition, we will continue doing the same in supporting TLGU goal to rediscovered golf talents,” he stressed.
Jesse Shuma, representative of the event’s co-sponsor Airpay Tanzania, said they will continue to support TLGU in all of their activities.
“We will work closely with TLGU in supporting ladies to strive economically as sports play a big role in creating employment too,” said Shuma.
He said by supporting TLGU and golfers it also helps to put the country into the spotlight.
In her remarks, Siraki commended the support of Sterling Surfactants Limited and co-sponsors for their support saying it will bring together top African and boost the tourism sector as well.
Other event’s co-sponsors include Daren Fabric Industries, Off the Beaten Path Safaris, Tanzania Breweries Ltd, Leopard Tours, Azam Media, Bansal Steel Rolling Mills, NCBA and Wayne’s Premium brandy.
It is the first time professional golfers have been invited to compete for cash prize awards as a way to acknowledge their contribution to the development of the game.
The event will serve as the ultimate qualifying round for the national women’s team, who will represent their county at the East and Central Africa Challenge Trophy in Rwanda later this year.
