Progress of golf course in Dodoma delights Bashungwa

MINISTER for Defence and National Service Innocent Bashungwa has commended the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) for the smooth implementation of the modern golf course construction project at Ihumwa, Dodoma.

The construction of a project that includes 18-hole course, a five-star Hotel and various sports fields, swimming pools, and a zoo, is going well in the country’s capital, Dodoma.

Amanze Mandegule, one of the project supervisors, confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ from Dodoma on Wednesday that they have been blessed with Minister Bashungwa’s visit this week.

“We are relieved to be visited by the Minister; he was here to see the progress after the foundation stone was laid a day before the then Chief of Defense Forces, General Venance Mabeyo, retired from the public service, last year,” said Mandengule.

Adding, he said the minister is very delighted for the step we have reached and for the practical implementation of President Samia’s Suluhu Hassan vision of developing sports in the country.

He said that the ongoing construction in a strategic area is very important because when it is completed, it will also provide important opportunities for leaders, visitors and neighbouring residents to participate in sports for their health.

“The minister praised the selection of the area for the project because it will provide important opportunities even for ambassadors to participate in sports as it’s venue, Ihumwa, is proximate near the Government City popularly known as the Magufuli City.

He  thanked Minister for his promise to make another visit with the Minister of Water in older to ease the water challenge at the project site.

“Water is very important for the smooth implementation of the project, we need sufficient water, and the involvement of other stakeholders is very important too,” he said.

“We need to plant enough trees, which are also important in decorating the city, but also in preserving water sources, but to achieve that, access to reliable source of water is very important,” he said.

In 2017, General Mabeyo made it public that TPDF planned to develop and promote golf in the country by constructing many courses in other regions, including Dodoma.

Just a day before retirement from the army, he lived his dream.

This is the second facility constructed by TPDF after the Lugalo golf course in Dar es Salaam. The project was engineered by the former CDF George Waitara while at the helm in 2006.
