Prof Mkenda flags off 150 teachers heading to India for a special training

DAR ES SALAAM: 150 government vocational education teachers depart for India tomorrow, March 29, 2026, for a special training programme aimed at enhancing their professional skills.
The teachers, drawn from various regions across Tanzania, were officially bid farewell yesterday during a ceremony attended by senior government leaders.
Among those present were the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Adolph Mkenda; the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Riziki Shemdoe; and the Director General of Global Education Link (GEL), Abdulmalik Mollel.
Speaking during the event, Prof Mkenda said the initiative reflects the vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has consistently emphasized strengthening vocational education.
He noted that the government will continue investing in such international training opportunities.
“President Samia has repeatedly stressed the importance of practical training. Since we have begun this journey, there will be no turning back. We will continue sending teachers to India and other countries to learn best practices,” he said.
Prof Mkenda urged the teachers to fully utilize the opportunity by studying diligently and becoming role models upon their return.
“We expect to see significant changes. When you come back, let your work demonstrate the value of this training. Ensure that schools are well-prepared to deliver practical skills at all levels,” he added.
He further emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the President’s vision into reality by providing quality, skills-based education.

On his part, Prof Shemdoe encouraged the teachers to maintain discipline and embrace the knowledge and values they will gain abroad.
“We want you to inspire others to aspire for such opportunities. Share your experiences and advise us on how to achieve better results in line with the President’s vision,” he said.
He added that the training programme is part of broader education reforms initiated under the sixth-phase government led by President Samia.
“Education reform is a long-term process with its challenges.
However, we remain committed and will not retreat, even for a single day,” Prof Shemdoe stressed.
