Prof Kabudi orders quality and timely completion of all DMDP projects

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Prof Palamagamba Kabudi, has directed implementing agencies to ensure all projects under the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP) are delivered on time, meet quality standards and provide value for public money.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing DMDP projects, Prof Kabudi stressed that the funds financing the programme are loans that the government must repay, making it imperative for all stakeholders to ensure efficient use of resources.

“The funds being used are borrowed and will be repaid by the government. Everyone involved in implementing these projects has a responsibility to ensure every shilling delivers value to Tanzanians,” he said.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction of the TARURA district office in Ubungo, commending contractors, supervising consultants and project managers for the work accomplished so far.

He, however, urged consultants to closely monitor implementation to ensure all works comply with the required standards and demonstrate value for money at every stage of execution.

While inspecting the Kizota–Changanyikeni Road project in Kinondoni District, Prof Kabudi underscored the importance of constructing adequate drainage systems alongside roads, warning that poor stormwater management leads to premature road damage and unnecessary losses to the government.

He also called on residents to support the projects by refraining from dumping waste into drainage channels and bridges, saying proper maintenance is essential to protect the infrastructure.

Prof Kabudi concluded by commending engineers and officials from Kinondoni Municipal Council, the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner’s Office, TARURA and other stakeholders involved in implementing the projects, urging them to continue working with professionalism, integrity and commitment to ensure the projects are completed to the expected standards.

Residents who spoke during the inspection thanked the government for constructing the road, saying it has improved the image of their neighbourhood and enhanced accessibility and convenience for the community.
