President Samia to inaugurate 11th East African Oil and Gas Conference in Dar

DAR ES SALAAM:  President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to officiate the 11th East African Oil and Gas Conference, scheduled for March 5–7 in Dar es Salaam.

The high-profile event will bring together over 1,000 participants, including industry experts, policymakers, and investors from across East Africa and beyond , to explore opportunities, challenges, and the future of the region’s oil and gas sector.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Friday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Eng Felchesmi Mramba, said the conference will focus on various critical issues, including oil, and gas exploration, investment opportunities, infrastructure development, value chain enhancement and strategies for transitioning to clean energy sources.

On his part, Deputy Permanent Secretary James Mataragio noted that Tanzania, as this year’s host, will have three representatives two from the mainland and one from Zanzibar while other participating nations will each send two delegates.

Jean Baptiste Havugimana, Director of Productive Sectors at the East African Community (EAC), emphasized the importance of the conference in fostering regional cooperation and tackling industry challenges.

He noted that discussions will also focus on regulatory frameworks, technological advancements, and financing mechanisms for oil and gas projects.

Since its inception in 2003, the East African Oil and Gas Conference have been held biennially, rotating among member states.

Tanzania last hosted the event in previous years and is now taking the lead again as the regional energy sector continues to evolve.
