ZANZIBAR: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed sports leaders and stakeholders at large to stop expecting to reap where they haven’t sown and invest in youth sports.
Speaking at a luncheon she prepared for Zanzibar’s U-15 National soccer team ‘Karume Boys’ in the Tunguu State Lodge, the Head of State issued three main directives geared to uplift the country’s sports sector.
The brave Karume Boys earned a victory against their Ugandan counterparts to lift the CECAFA Under-15 champions trophy.
She directed sport councils to continue coordinating and monitoring the performance of sports associations in the country to ensure they comply with the country’s strategies and not for their own betterment.
Meanwhile, the President also emphasized the need to renovate sports facilities, including stadiums, immediately once they get damaged to avoid high costs of doing the same in the future.
She also urged the private sector to exploit opportunities available in the sector by injecting their capital into construction projects and sports academies.
