President Samia mourns His Highness Aga Khan IV

DODOMA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has extended her condolences to the family of His Highness Prince Karim Al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), and the global Ismaili Muslim community following the passing of Aga Khan IV.

The Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili Muslim community announced that His Highness Prince Karim Al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV the 49th hereditary imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims passed away in Portugal, surrounded by his family.

In a message shared on her In a message shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, President Samia wrote: “It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of His Highness Prince Karim Al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the world’s Ismaili Muslims and the founder of the Aga Khan Development Network”.

“On behalf of the Government and People of the United Republic of Tanzania, I wish to convey our deepest and heartfelt condolences to His Highness’s family, the Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili Muslims community” President Samia added.

Furthermore, President Samia described Prince Karim Aga Khan IV as a great leader and visionary whose work transformed the lives of millions across the globe.

“We join you in mourning the loss of a great leader and visionary, whose work has touched and changed the lives of millions of people around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,” she stated.

The President concluded her message with the Islamic phrase, Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (Verily, we belong to God, and to Him we shall return).

Prince Karim Al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV assumed the role of spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims at the remarkably young age of 20 while still an undergraduate at Harvard University.

Throughout his lifetime, he served not only as a spiritual leader but also as a business magnate and humanitarian, dedicating his efforts to improving education, healthcare, and economic development in various regions worldwide.
