President Samia graces Tanzania Comedian Awards

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan graces the inaugural Tanzania Comedy Awards (TCA) this Saturday, a groundbreaking event recognizing the country’s top comedians.

The ceremony, which will make history as Tanzania’s first official comedy awards, is scheduled to take place on Saturday at The Superdome Masaki conference hall in Dar es Salaam, starting at 7:00 PM.

The event is expected to be a significant milestone for the country’s comedy industry, bringing together top comedians, entertainment industry stakeholders, government officials, and high-profile dignitaries.

According to the Tanzania Comedy Awards organizing committee, in collaboration with the Tanzania Film Board under the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, all preparations have been finalized.

Guests have been advised to dress formally and respectfully, given the presence of senior leaders and industry figures.

Officially launched on January 16, 2024, the Tanzania Comedy Awards were established to recognize, celebrate, and promote the fast-growing comedy sector, which has created employment opportunities for many young artists in recent years.

The initiative is spearheaded by Bongo Fleva star Ommy Dimpoz, in partnership with BASATA (the National Arts Council), the Film Board, and the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports.

The awards will honor both veteran and emerging comedians, with the Best Comedian of the Year set to receive a grand cash prize of 30m/-.

This historic event is expected to boost the recognition of comedy as a respected and influential art form in Tanzania’s entertainment industry, further encouraging young talent to pursue careers in the field.
