TANZANIA: ALMOST three days after concluding her official visit in Mtwara and Lindi regions, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed, transferred and sacked some top public officials, a latest State House statement indicates.
While in Lindi and Mtwara, the Head of State insisted on proper management of funds and accountability for her government to be in a good position of delivering quality services to wananchi.
However, the statement said President Samia Suluhu Hassan had appointed Maharage Chande as the Director of the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL).
Prior to his appointment, Mr Chande was the Managing Director of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO).
The appointee is taking over from Engineer Peter ulanga who will be assigned to another role.
Additionally, President Samia also appointed Engineer Gissima Nyamo Hanga as the new Managing Director of TANESCO to cover the vacuum left by Change who has been transferred to TTCL.
Before his new role, Mr Hanga was the Executive Director of the Rural Energy Agency (REA).
The Head of State has also promoted Dr Erasmus Kipesha to head Tanzania Education Authority (TEA).
Before his new post, Dr Kipesha was TEA’s Director of Services.
SACKING
Apart from appointing, promoting and transferring, the Head of State has also fired others as she eyes efficiency in her government.
The President has revoked the appointment of the Mtwara Urban District Commissioner, Hanafi Msabaha and appointed Ms Mwanahamisi Mkunda to fill the gap.
Also, Nanyumbu District Commissioner Mariam Chaurembo has been removed from her post. Dr Stephen Mwakajumilo, according to the statement, has been appointed to fill Mariam’s void.
