ZANZIBAR: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has awarded Zanzibar’s national team ‘Karume Boys’ 50m/- after clinching the CECAFA Under-15 Championship trophy.
The tournament was organized by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association and hosted in Uganda this year.
Speaking during Saturday’s luncheon she prepared for the boys at Tunguu State Lodge in Zanzibar, the Head of State said the victory will remain immortal in Tanzania’s soccer history.
“I congratulate you once again, my boys. What you have done can never be erased. My desire is to see that in the coming AFCON 2027, two or three of these boys take part,” the President noted.
Additionally, the Head of State said that both governments have decided to focus on sports by supporting youth sports.
“If we don’t invest in our own, no one will value them. The biggest part of wealth in the world comes from sports, so if we nurture this youth, they will bring fortune to Zanzibar,” she added.
