President Mwinyi, Canadian envoy discuss strategies to boost key sectors

ZANZIBAR: Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi met and held discussions with the Canadian Ambassador to Tanzania, Kyle Nunas, on Thursday as they contemplated how the two parties can collaborate to enhance various sectors, including tourism and the blue economy.

The diplomat, who paid a courtesy call at the President’s office in the Isles, mentioned that Canada can invest in the aforementioned sectors as well as in transportation, oil, and gas.

During their discussions, Dr. Mwinyi informed the envoy that Zanzibar’s primary economy is tourism, contributing to 30 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The President expressed gratitude to the Canadian government for cooperating with his administration on various social services projects in the country, including education and healthcare.

Ambassador Nunas led a delegation comprising chairpersons from the Canada-Africa Parliamentary Association (CAAF) and Senator Amina Gerba.
