President hails Simba Queens’ heroic feat

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has commended Simba Queens for their brilliance in the just ended CAF Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco.

President Samia hailed the brave Queens on her twitter account  saying they have performed wonders  despite failing to reach final stage of the tournament.

“ I congratulate and thank you for your historic achievement  even though you didn’t reach the final stage  of the CAF Women’s Champions League. I believe you will go further than the fourth place next time,” President Samia tweeted.

The country’s envoys suffered a 1-0 loss to Bayelsa Queens to miss out an opportunity of ending the contest on third place in a tough match at Stade Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco on Saturday night.

Juliet Sunday netted the winner for the Nigerians in the 70th minute to claim the third slot after displaying a good performance as they dictated terms especially in the second half.

Both teams were making maiden appearance at the CAF Women Champions League and are hopeful to perform better in the next editions.

For Simba Queens, it was a third upset for them in the contest and coincidentally, in all their three defeats, they have  lost by 1-0 margin and in all circumstances, the goals have been scored in the second half.

“We are proud with the team because they have succeeded to achieve number one priority of stepping in the semifinals as such, they deserve compliments,” said Simba Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Barbara Gonzalez.

She also disclosed that a historic reward will be given to the team for what they have achieved while opting not to name the status of the incoming big prize.

However, the team’s Head Coach Charles Lukula has already indicated that there is an urgent need to polish up his striking department so as to simplify hunting of many goals.

The Msimbazi Queens occupied second place in group A with six points after three matches which was enough to take them to the semifinals where they eventually lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns.
