AFTER a brief pause, hits and misses in the Mainland Premier League are back, as the 10th round gets underway with fourteams battling for maximum points at two venues today.
Actions in the league were momentarily paused to pave way for the FIFA calendar as national teams were involved in back-to-back 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures.
An early match will see Geita Gold hosting JKT Tanzania at Nyankumbu Stadium in Geita as the former eye to bounce back after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Mtibwa Sugar in their previous match.
Under the tutelage of experienced coach, Hemed Suleiman ‘Morocco’, the Geita envoys have just enjoyed one victory this season, while recording four draws and four upsets in the process.
They are currently placed in 15th place on the league table with seven points in the bag hence a win in today’s home duel will be a big boost for them.
On the other hand, JKT Tanzania want to maintain their good performance in the contest as they search for their fifth victory of the season.
JKT Tanzania are placed sixth. They have accumulated 14 points from nine games courtesy of four wins, two draws and three defeats.
In their previous match, they stunned their fellow debutants Mashujaa 2-0 to pocket maximum points. As such, the tense 90 minutes at Nyankumbu Stadium will determine which side walks away with heads up.
In a late kick-off fixture, Kagera Sugar will welcome KMC to Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera.
From nine fixtures, Kagera Sugar have assembled 12 points after three wins, three draws and three defeats respectively. They are looking to stamp a second successive triumph after emerging 2-1 winners over Tanzania Prisons in their past league match.
KMC sits in fifth place on the log courtesy of 15 points produced from four victories, and three draws since succumbing to two defeats.
The Kinondoni-based side lost 1-2 to Dodoma Jiji in their past league assignment hence all eyes will be on Kaitaba Stadium to see how they react after their previous defeat.
Tomorrow, two fixtures will be played. Tanzania Prisons host Coastal Union at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya. Namungo will host Ihefu at Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi on the same date.
However, as it stands in the top five of the table, holders Young Africans lead with 24 points seconded by Azam with 19 points while Simba is third with 19 points but has one game in hand as they have played eight matches.
In fourth place are Dodoma Jiji with 15 points while KMC scoops the fifth slot courtesy of 15 points in the bag.
