DODOMA: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Wednesday launched two National Assembly history books that are expected to encourage research on the contribution of the Parliament in the development of the country.
He said the books would be an example of the successes and challenges that the Parliament of Tanzania has gone through in maintaining democracy and the rule of law.
“Our history is part of our contribution to the international community in promoting peace, stability and development,” said the Premier during the launching event at Pius Msekwa Hall in the city.
The launched books are about the National Assembly history from 1929-2024 and Members of Parliament and their positions from 1965- 2023.

“History of Parliament can stimulate academic research and development of political and management theories. Researchers can use reports from the books to build new understanding and propose new political system,” he said.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Tulia Ackson commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for approving expansion plans of the National Assembly, which include acquiring surrounding land areas.
People and public institutions that occupied land surrounding the National Assembly here have relocated to pave the way for expansion plans.
Dr Tulia said they are planning to construct a museum which will be big so that when one comes to the Parliament, one will get the history of the country and that of the National Assembly,” she said.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Nenenelwa Mwihambi said through the two books, people would understand changes experienced since it was established.
People would also understand the course that the country undertook through decisions made in the Parliament and Members of Parliament in the political system.
Earlier, the Director for Department of Library and Research Deogratius Egidio said for the first time, the Parliament has written its own history in depth since it was established 98 years ago.
