Police nab 97 suspects of murder, robbery in Katavi
KATAVI: POLICE in Katavi Region have arrested 97 suspects for allegedly involving themselves in various criminal acts in the region.
Acting Regional Police Commander Mr David Mutasya told journalists yesterday that all the suspects were arrested last week following the ongoing police operation in the region.
The acting RPC told journalists that 11 people were arrested for committing different crimes including murder.
He said the suspects were in custody for interrogation.Moreover, five suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of 18 piece of elephant’s tusks and 26 pieces of wild animal carcasses.
The suspects also were illegally found in possession of government trophies including lion skins and pangolins scales.
The acting RPC stated that during the operation, 38 people were arrested with 164 litres of illicit brew while two were caught with three stolen cows valued at over 1.8m/-.
“Twelve people were arrested in possession of narcotic drugs such as marijuana, all suspects are being interrogated by officers and they will be arraigned immediately after the completion of investigation,” he noted.

The acting RPC said that during the operation, Police seized two homemade firearms, a TV set 32, 30 bags of cement, a solar panel and two motorcycles with registration numbers MC 979 DJR and MC 482 DVH.
He further said that some of the equipment were being used to commit crimes while others were stolen properties. asking the public to continue sharing useful information that will enable police to curb crime in the region.
