Police in Mtwara stress traffic regulations adherence

Mtwara District Traffic Officer (DTO), ASP George Shimba has asked the public to observe traffic regulations and laws to avoid road accidents which have been claiming innocent lives.
ASP Shimba further underlined the importance of strengthening education on road safety issues which develops knowledge, skills, and positively changes attitudes to enable pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists, drivers and passengers to use the road safely.
He made the remarks recently during the closing of a driving and road safety training at the Tanzania Agriculture Research Institute (TARI) Naliendele centre, where a total of 55 graduates were awarded certificates.
ASP Mashimba further asked the trainees to apply the education they received in improving their skills and observance of road safety laws as well as be good ambassadors to their colleagues.
“We are continuing with the exercise of inspecting defective vehicles to reduce accidents that cause disability and even death in the community,” he said.
On the same occasion, he called for the presence of good relationship between police force and road users including the use of good and polite language.
On his part, TARI Naliendele Centre Director, Dr Fortunus Kapinga, asked the instructors that the training should be continuous in the institution to keep reminding each other on the importance of road safety laws.
Dr Kapinga also applauded the police force and training instructors for their cooperation, arguing that the training will help to build capacity and increase awareness knowledge about road safety.
The Training Coordinator, Mr Paul Nkuba said the training was held for a period of two weeks and various topics were presented that helped the participants to have wide knowledge on the precaution they should take for safety.
On his part, Mr Gasper Mgimiloko, who was among the participants in the training, said the program has enabled them to learn various road safety matters, including the importance of insurance and license.
He said they also learnt about traffic signs which provide valuable information to drivers and other road users to keep them safe and reduce accidents.
