Police in Katavi hunts assailants for acid attacking

POLICE officers have mounted manhunt for assailants allegedly for pouring what is believed to concentrated sulfuric acid on Ernest  Lyoba (61), who has sustained severe  multiple bodily harm.

Lyoba, who is a resident of Namanyere village in Mlele District, Katavi Region has severely been burnt on face and other parts of his body after being poured with the chemicals.

Briefing the journalists, Katavi Regional Police Commander (RPC) Ms Kaster Ngonyani said the incident occurred on June 25th this year at Namanyere village at around 3:00 pm when the elderly man was ambushed by unknown assailants, who poured an acid which caused severe bodily harm.

“The elderly man was on his way home when the ordeal happened to him. The assailants are still on run as they fled to unknown destination shortly after committing the crime,” narrated the RPC.

She further went on to explain the elderly man was rushed to Mpimbwe Council Health Centre by some villagers for further treatment .

Reports from the Mpimbwe health facility show that the elderly man has been referred to Katavi Regional Referral Hospital for further medical treatment.

However, the reports from Katavi Regional Referral facility have confirmed that the elderly man has been referred to Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Referral Hospital for specialised medical treatment.
