Police gun down three suspected bandits

THREE suspected bandits have been shot dead by Police in an exchange of gunfire at Ngara and Biharamulo borders in Kagera Region.

Speaking to journalists in Bukoba, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), William Mwampagale said the police conducted a special operation on the 15th of November, this year after being clued into the presence of an armed group of people with a plan to commit crime.

 “— we set our traps in those areas where three males believed to be bandits got injured by bullets in an exchange of gunfire. They died when they were being rushed to hospital,” ACP Mwampagale said.

The ACP said that the bodies of the deceased, aged between 25-35, have been preserved at Ngara Nyamiaga District Hospital.

According to him, the Force’s preliminary investigation revealed that from September to October, this year, the group conducted crimes in various areas including Bugarama, Muganza and Murusagamba.

He added that the Force collected an abandoned unregistered AK47 gun and a magazine with 12 bullets.

However, the Kagera Police boss asked residents to continue cooperating with the force by reporting various crimes likely to happen in their respective areas.
