Police crackdown nabs 134 suspects in Katavi

KATAVI: POLICE in Katavi region have arrested more than 134 suspects, accused of being involved in various criminal incidents.Regional Police Commander, Kalister Ngonyani told journalists on yesterday that the suspects were arrested in various areas in an ongoing operation in the region.

She said many of suspects were arrested in Mlele, Mpanda and Tanganyika districts.The RPC explained that all 134 suspects will be arraigned when the investigation is completed. According to the RPC, 20 suspects were arrested for allegedly breaking into a house, stealing various belongings.

” The suspects were caught with various stolen items including a TV set, seven rollers of iron bars meant for construction of water project at Shanwe area in the municipality, two motor bikes with registration numbers MC 492BRB, MC 273 EFF and a radio.

Another stolen item on the list is an Isuzu pick up  with registration number T747 DZW whose owner is in Kigoma……, and all stolen items have been identified by owners” she added.

The RPC said with the ongoing operation and frequent patrols in the region, criminal acts have dropped in the area.

According to the RPC, police also seized marijuana and various weapons used by suspects to commit crimes in the region.

“This operation has succeeded due to great cooperation we receive from good Samaritans and good citizens, we acknowledge their contribution and ask them to continue working closely with police so that together we can end crime in the region,” she said.

The RPC also sent a strong message to the criminals saying they must find other legal income earning activities, instead of continuing carrying out illegal acts.
