PM woos investors with Tanzania’s opportunities

UK: PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has assured investors of Tanzania’s favourable investment climate, citing supportive policies, laws and quality infrastructure as key factors in attracting investment in sectors such as banking and mining.

Dr Nchemba made the remarks yesterday when he met investors attending the Strategic Investment and Financial Markets Forum at the Citi Bank Conference Hall in the United Kingdom. He said Tanzania had established an enabling environment to attract and promote investment across various sectors of the economy, with supportive policies, a sound legal framework and quality infrastructure creating opportunities for businesses.

At the Tanzania Investment Forum 2026 in London on Thursday evening, the Premier also called on investors to partner with Tanzania in implementing its long-term development agenda under DIRA 2050.

Addressing more than 300 participants, Dr Nchemba said Tanzania was embarking on a new 25-year development journey guided by DIRA 2050, which outlines the country’s development aspirations and direction.

He said ongoing government investments in infrastructure and energy, coupled with the country’s natural resources, youthful workforce and access to the Indian Ocean, provided a strong foundation for economic growth and investment.

“Investments in infrastructure and energy are giving us a solid platform to promote DIRA 2050. Our natural resources offer important opportunities, while our large youth population provides a strong workforce. The Indian Ocean also gives us access to wider markets beyond our borders,” he said.

The Premier invited investors to bring capital, technology and expertise to support Tanzania’s development ambitions, stressing the importance of building long-term partnerships.

“What we need now are partners who are ready to build our country together with us. My invitation to you today is clear: come to Tanzania and explore the available opportunities. Bring capital, technology and expertise and, above all, let us build longterm partnerships,” he said.

Dr Nchemba said the government, under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, was ready to work with serious investors to turn promising opportunities into successful investments.

“A new chapter in Tanzania’s economic transformation is being written now. That is why we invite you to be part of this transformation,” he said.

He stressed that economic growth alone was not enough to attract investors, noting that businesses also needed a predictable economic environment, bankable projects, clear investment regulations and reliable infrastructure.

“We know investors do not invest simply because a country’s economy is growing. They invest when there is a predictable economic environment,” he said.

The Premier said the government remained committed to addressing investment barriers and responding to investors’ concerns to build confidence and encourage long-term commitments. He said DIRA 2050 placed significant emphasis on private-sector participation, noting that the government could not achieve the country’s development ambitions alone without support from businesses.

Dr Nchemba identified energy, mining, agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, infrastructure and transport, tourism, the blue economy, technology and financial services as key sectors offering investment opportunities. Earlier, Tanzania’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mbelwa Kairuki, urged participants to use the forum to obtain detailed information about investment opportunities in Tanzania.

He assured prospective investors that his office remained open to supporting them and strengthening business relationships established through the forum. The Premier is in the United Kingdom on a five-day working visit.

He was accompanied by Finance Minister Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, Zanzibar Minister for Finance and Planning Dr Juma Malik Akil, Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Planning and Investment Prof Kitilla Mkumbo, Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Angella Kairuki.
