Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected on Wednesday to meet with the Kariakoo Market traders’ committee following the ongoing traders strike over levies.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will also meet ministers from the relevant sector and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) at PM’Office, Magogoni, Dar es Salaam from 2pm.
Shops at Kariakoo on Monday morning were closed due to strikes by traders calling for the removal of levies imposed and collected by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
“As for now the government is persuading traders to cease the strike and continue with their daily activities… as the government plans to work on the matter,” read the statement.
