PM to launch 2022-census category publications in Z’bar

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to  officiate the launch of the national Population and Housing Census- 2022, grouping publications for use in the country.

State Minister in the Office of the Isles’ Second Vice President, Mr Hamza Hassan Juma said on Wesnday that the launch of the publications will be held tomorrow at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA).

He said the  PM, who is the chairperson of the National Census Committee, will be accompanied by his co-chair Hemed Suleiman Abdulla.

“To begin with, only two publications ‘Administrative report and ‘Age and Sex report’ will be launched. Other reports will follow later, depending on the need by stakeholders,” Mr Juma said.

He said that after the National Housing and Population Census results were announced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan on October 31 last year, the next step was processing and grouping exercise.

“We are now ready to release the much needed reports for planning, budgeting, policy formulation making among others, “he said.

Tanzania has a population of 61,741,120 including 1,889,773 people in Zanzibar. According to the census results, women are the leading population in both Mainland (30,713,709), and Zanzibar (974,281)

According to Ms Fahima Mohamed Issa, Director, Social Statistics Department in the Office of the Chief Government Statistician- Zanzibar (OCGSZ), each category/group will have three publications for Mainland, Zanzibar, and the Union government.

She said that the launching event will be attended by some leaders from the Union and Zanzibar governments, political parties, Civil Society Organizations, NGOs, and faith based organizations, students and ordinary citizens.
